MODERATE | SELF-DRIVE: Iceland's Midnight Sun shines from late May to early August, reaching its peak between in the third week of June. On this self-drive adventure, whisk your way around Iceland's Ring Road as a spectacular range of landscapes reveal themselves. Though available from early May until September 30, annually, this self-drive adventure is best enjoyed from late May until early August.


For the independent minded traveller who likes to make up their own mind as to the itinerary they would enjoy and the pace at which they wish to travel, Goway makes it easy to plan a vacation. Explore this fairytale land over 8 days on a self-drive trip. Pick up your car at the airport and set off for Iceland’s wonders. Each night, you will have pre arranged accommodation at charming hotels, allowing you to simply enjoy the drive, and the sights.

During your week in Iceland you will see geothermal regions with geysers, hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers, coastal fjords, volcanic formations and unique National Parks. You will have the opportunity to visit Papey Island with its thousands of puffins. You can visit magnificent Horseshoe Canyon at Asbyrgi, enjoy the friendly fishing port of Husavik, explore the mystical volcano at Dimmuborgir and see a great example of old Icelandic architecture at an authentic farmstead near Glambaer.

Day 1

Keflavik - Hverageroi

Pick up your car at the Hertz desk at the airport and start your Iceland experience.

From Keflavik International Airport, drive along the southern coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula towards your first overnight stay in the charming village of Hveragerdi. The village is one of the few sites in the world located directly on top of a geothermal area and because of its many greenhouses heated by hot water from nearby springs it is often called the flower village. Depending on your arrival time in Iceland it is ideal to visit the renowned Blue Lagoon to relax in the geothermal water.

Varmahlio - Reykjavik

Drive through the historical region of Skagafjordur renowned for horse breeding. You have an option of visiting the old farmstead at Glaumbaer a great example of old Icelandic architecture. Continue to the bay of Hunafloi and across Holtavorduheidi plateau, enter Borgarfjordur area. Return your car to Keflavik airport.

Another option is to travel across the barren Kjolur highland road (4WD needed, track open from mid-June), to the geothermal oasis at Hveravellir before driving to Reykjavik.

Optional: River rafting in Skagafjordur; horse riding in Skagafjordur; seal watching tour from Hvammstangi.
