You’ll also enjoy two nights on the beaches of Umhlanga in between.
This 9-day South African vacation takes you to two safari game lodges and the beachside town of Umhlanga. It features deluxe accommodations, and small group tours, and is a great trip for nature lovers.
Your journey begins in Richards Bay, where you’ll transfer to Amakhosi Safari Lodge along the Mkuze River of Amazulu Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. This 5-star safari lodge offers six thatched-roof chalets that overlook the river as well as your own personal ranger to see to your needs during your stay. You’ll have two full days at Amakhosi Safari Lodge to head on morning and afternoon game drives in search of the wonderful animals that live in the reserve. You’ll have an especially good chance of spotting the Big Five, as well as a variety of species of antelopes and birds.
From Amakhosi, you’ll transfer to Umhlanga on the coast, not far to the north of Durban. Staying at an iconic hotel on the beachfront, you’ll enjoy a full day in the heart of the Umhlanga Rocks. Spend your time swimming in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean or exploring the cultural highlights nearby this resort town. After recharging at the beach in Umhlanga, you’ll connect onward to Thornybush Game Reserve in Greater Kruger National Park. Enjoy one of the 18 luxury suites of this 5-star lodge overlooking the Monwana River. Spend two full days heading on morning and afternoon game drives in the park. Follow the trail of lions, spot elephants cooling off in the shade, and keep your eyes on the air in order to spot some of the colourful birds that live in the reserve. At the end of the day, enjoy sundowners before decompressing at the Guerlain Spa.
After a game drive on your final morning, you’ll depart and connect to your onward destination.

Richards Bay to Amakhosi Safari Lodge
Upon arrival at Richards Bay Airport, you will be met and transferred to Amakhosi Safari Lodge. This afternoon, depart on an afternoon game drive in the reserve (time permitting). Your ranger is your host for the duration of your stay and they will take care of your every need whilst sharing their intimate knowledge of the wild. Sipping sundowners under an African sky somehow "finishes off" the whole day's experience.

Amakhosi Safari Lodge
Up at dawn for your early morning game drive! Of course, the less energetic are welcome to sleep late! Search out a multitude of animals including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and cheetah, together with a wealth of antelope and birds interacting in their natural environment.
Return to camp for a hearty breakfast, relax or talk with your ranger and mingle with the guests. Your afternoon game drive takes you well into the evening. Return to your lodge for another sumptuous dinner. Weather permitting you may enjoy a bush 'braai' at a surprise venue!
