Duration
8 Days
Prices From:

FIRST-CLASS | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Journey through the magical alpine landscape of Wulingyuan and Huangshan on this trip to Eastern China. Begin in Zhangjiajie where you’ll explore the floating mountain landscape that inspired Avatar. Then head to Huangshan to summit Yellow Mountain before ending your journey in futuristic Shanghai.

This 8-day Chinese vacation takes you across the mountainous landscapes of Hunan and Anhui before ending in Shanghai. It includes moderate or first-class accommodations depending on your preference, private tours, and is ideal for travellers returning to China and wanting to explore its natural wonders.

Your journey begins in Zhangjiajie, the gateway to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area or the floating mountains of China. You’ll spend a couple days exploring this magical landscape that inspired James Cameron’s blockbuster sci-fi film, Avatar. One day, head into the UNESCO-listed Wulingyuan Park to see the dozens of sandstone pillars that look like they’re floating above the cloud line. Ride the Tianzishan cable car to the top of the canyon and walk along the bridges and precipices to take in this spectacular sight. The next day, ride the world’s longest cable car to Tianmen Mountain to walk along the glass walkway and visit the temple pavilion built on the top of the mountain. Then descend into Yellow Dragon Cave to explore a magical landscape of limestone karsts, stalactites, and stalagmites illuminated by a colourful light display.

From Zhangjiajie, connect to Changsha and ride the train to Huangshan, set amidst a stunning range of jagged peaks. Explore the historic avenue of Laojie Street, which has been one of China’s best-preserved commercial streets for over 1,000 years. The next day, head to the UNESCO-listed Xidi Village to journey through a landscape of rice paddies and green hills. It’s like walking into a classical Chinese painting come to life. You’ll also see the Song Dynasty temple in Pingshan Village and explore the bizarre city plan of Hongcun Village, which is designed to represent the biological system of a cow.

The greatest highlight on your trip to Huangshan is Yellow Mountain, one of the country’s most famous mountains. Ride the cable car to the summit and spend a night atop a sea of clouds. The next morning, head on a walking tour before descending and flying to Shanghai for the final stop on your journey. In Shanghai, stroll along the Art Deco avenue of the Bund to admire the futuristic skyline of Pudong across the water. Stroll through Yu Garden and try some local delicacies before heading to the airport to connect back home.
