Your trip to China begins in Beijing, the nation’s capital and gateway to the Great Wall. On your first full day in Beijing, head to the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall to learn about the city’s expansion over the centuries. Then explore the landmarks of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, the resplendent former palace of the Chinese Emperor, before biking through the historical neighbourhood of Hutong and visiting the Summer Palace to cycle through its royal garden. The next day, head north to connect to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Stroll along the guard towers built during the Ming Dynasty and enjoy breathtaking views along this rugged section of the wall. Afterwards, bike through Huairou County and visit a local market before returning to Beijing.

From Beijing, head into Guilin to explore a landscape of rice paddies, limestone mountains, and rivers that was immortalized in classical Chinese painting. Head into Reed Flute Cave, with its rock formations and water reeds, and summit Elephant Trunk Hill to experience the picturesque landscape. Continue to the resort town of Yangshuo, where you’ll spend an entire day biking around to local villages and admiring the landscape of rice paddies and karst mountains. You’ll also take part in a cooking class in Chaolong Village.

Connect to Lijiang, the capital of Yunnan province and home to the Naxi cultural minority. Visit the Dayan Ancient Town and learn about the fascinating aspects of Naxi culture. You’ll also be lucky enough to experience Impression Lijiang, a stunning audio-visual show of martial arts prowess, singing, and dancing directed by Chinese filmmaker, Zhang Yimou. You’ll then spend a couple days biking through the countryside. One day, visit Baisha Village and bike through Lijiang Valley. Another day, head on a mountain biking trip to Yuhu Village, visit the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Zhiyun, and skirt the banks of Lashi Lake.

Close out your trip in Shanghai, China’s largest city and financial hub. Defined by the glittering skyscrapers of the Pudong district, including Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai is China’s city of the future. Spend the afternoon getting your bearings. The next day, head to the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum to learn about the construction of modern Shanghai before strolling down the Bund, where you’ll see Art Deco buildings and enjoy postcard views of the skyline across the water. Close out your time in the city with a bike tour through the French Concession area, which transports you to Continental Europe with its French architecture and tree-lined streets.

At the end of your stay, head to the airport to continue your onward journey.
