Explore the temples of Tokyo and delve into the neon-soaked nightlife of Shinjuku before relaxing in a luxury ryokan in Hakone near Mt. Fuji. Cap off the trip in Kyoto, where you’ll stroll through bamboo groves and discover Japanese culinary classics.

This 9-day Japanese vacation takes you to Tokyo, Hakone, and Kyoto. It features first-class accommodations, including a stay in a luxury ryokan, private and shared tours, and is a relaxing journey through Japan.

Your journey begins in Tokyo, the nation’s capital and one of the world’s great megacities. Head on a morning half day Cityrama tour to see a few of its most celebrated landmarks. Start at Meiji Jingu Shrine, which is dedicated to the former emperor of Japan that opened up the country to the West, continue to Asakusa and Senso-ji, the city’s largest Buddhist temple, and finish off in ritzy Ginza, where you can do some designer shopping. The next evening, enjoy a taste of Tokyo’s famous nightlife on a tour through Shinjuku. Pass through Shinjuku Station, the busiest train station in the world, during the heart of rush hour. Then head to an izakaya within the neon-soaked streets of Shinjuku and cap off the evening with a nightcap at a speakeasy.

Leave Tokyo behind and ride the train to Hakone, a resort town to the east of Mt. Fuji. In Hakone, you’ll stay in a luxury ryokan located on the grounds of a former imperial villa. This beautiful property blends traditional and modern elements for a relaxing stay in an enviable location. Enjoy kaiseki cuisine and stunning views of the countryside and mountains. While in Hakone, you’ll head on a full day tour of Hakone National Park. Stop by the temple of Choan-ji, cruise across Lake Ashi to enjoy views of Mt. Fuji, and walk along the Komagatake Ropeway before ending up in Sekisho-Ato, a former part of Hakone’s old town. The next day is at leisure to do as you wish within the beautiful town and surrounds.

Ride the train to Kyoto, the former imperial capital and Japan’s most beautiful city. Kyoto is full of temples, gardens, and stunning greenery, making it one of the country’s most beloved locations. One day, you’ll delve into Kyoto’s food culture at the Nishiki Market, learning about Japanese culinary traditions and tasting local variations of tofu, dashi, and sake. The next day, explore the famous district of Arashiyama, where you’ll see Tenryu-ji, a UNESCO-listed temple, before strolling through the bamboo grove of Sagano. Stop by Jojakko Temple before enjoying the views of the district from Togetsu kyo Bridge. Cap off the tour with a lunch cruise on a Yakatabune Boat.

At the end of your time in Kyoto, you’ll connect to the airport in Osaka and return home.

Tokyo at Leisure

Tokyo, Japan’s sprawling, busy capital, offers a mix of the ultramodern and the traditional, from neon-lit skyscrapers to cherry trees in season and serene temples. Due to the major earthquake in 1923 and the destruction from the 2nd World War, many of the city’s buildings are modern and contemporary architecturally. It has been the capital of Japan since 1868 moving from Kyoto.

The city is made up of a number of districts, each one with its own character and attractions. To get around the city, it is not impossible to walk from one to another but allow time. The Tokyo subway system is somewhat complex but all route maps and many signs are in both Japanese and English.
