Tikal, Uaxactun Ruins & Local Village Visit
- Duration
- 3 Days
- Prices From:
- US$ 1,265
Explore the second largest ruined city in the world and discover the unique settlements that remain nearby today on this very special Tikal tour.
This 3-day visit to Tikal first takes you from Flores to the ruins and present day village of Uaxactun. The city is famous for its elaborate observatory, and innovative use of sunlight. Uniquely, Uaxactun survives today, albeit in a very different form. Learn about the resources collected and used in the area, and enjoy sunset drinks before camping (with all comforts included!) two nights in the jungle, giving you plenty of time to explore the town.
Day three is devoted to Tikal, marked by its towering pyramids and the colourful wildlife that lives in the nearby rainforest. Abandoned in the 10th century, Tikal is today the world’s second largest ruined city behind Angkor, with plenty to explore, having supported the Maya for up to 700 years. Star Wars fans will get an extra thrill from recognising the Yavin Rebel base – or at least, the towers that loomed above the trees to mark its location!

Tikal National Park
After breakfast, you are transferred 30 minutes from Uaxactun to Tikal National Park where some 3,000 ancient structures rise from the rainforest floor. Not only will you enjoy a fascinating tour of this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also experience the sights and sounds of tropical birds and animals, including howler and spider monkeys, that live in the jungle canopy. Once home to an estimated at 50,000 residents or more, Tikal flourished from 800 BC to 900 AD.
