This tour begins with a 45 min transfer from La Fortuna/Arenal area to the Balsa River access point. This river offers class II and III rapids, making this an ideal tour for first-time river rafters.
Before setting out on your river run, you will be given an orientation talk by your professional, experienced bilingual guides whom will be detailing safety measures and paddling instructions. You will also be handed your gear: pro-tec helmet, NRS life-jacket, and paddle. After practicing a few strokes you will be off.
Challenge yourself as you paddle through fun and safe rolling rapids with names like 'Morning Coffee' and 'Rock around the Croc'. You will also get to play around the tranquil pools of a rainforest river canyon.
The Balsa River, surrounded by lush rainforest, is one of the best white water options in Costa Rica, boasting high water levels year round. You will have the time of your life making your way down a 10kilometres/6.2miles stretch of this amazing river. You will also have the chance to do some wildlife spotting along the way. The whole river run takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours to complete.
With luck, you will be able to spot lots of wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, and tropical birds (ospreys, oropendolas, and toucans). This unique river trip is the best way to combine adventure and nature.
