DELUXE | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Embark on a private tour of Germany’s Romantic Road, a breathtaking stretch of medieval old towns and fairy tale castles between Frankfurt and Munich. As you pass through Wurzburg, Rothenburg, and Fussen, you’ll tour medieval squares, walk along city walls, and visit breathtaking castles like Neuschwanstein.

This 5-day Germany vacation takes you along the Romantic Road, heading from Frankfurt to Wurzburg, Rothenburg, Fussen, and the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein before ending in Munich.

Your Germany tour begins in Frankfurt, the city of business and international airport hub for much of Western Europe. Start your journey along the Romantic Road between Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria and stop off at Mespelbrunn Castle, a picturesque Renaissance castle located on the edge of a river tributary. Continue to Wurzburg, one of the prettiest towns on the Main River, where you’ll tour the old town and see the lovely Residenz Palace. End your day at Castle Steinburg Hotel and spend the rest of your day touring a vineyard or wine cellar to taste some of the best German wines.

The next day, continue along the Romantic Road to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, home to one of the most beautiful medieval old towns in Europe. Take a tour of the old town to see some of the most notable landmarks, including the Rathaus (town hall), the little town square of Plonlein, and St. Jacob’s Church. Continue to Dinkelsbuhl, another gorgeous medieval town, and Nordlingen, which is known for the ancient city walls that are some of the only preserved city walls in Germany. End the day in Augsburg, which was famous for its silversmiths and goldsmiths in the Middle Ages.

You’ll reach the end of the Romantic Road in Fussen, where you’ll find fairy tale castles and gorgeous mountain landscapes. Head right outside Fussen to reach Neuschwanstein, the fairy tale castle built by the Mad King Ludwig II and the most popular castle in Europe. You’ll ride up to the castle in a horse-drawn carriage and tour its romantic halls. The next day, visit another of Ludwig’s castles, Linderhof Castle, before passing through Obermmergau and ending your Germany vacation in Munich, the capital of Bavaria.

This trip to Germany makes for a great add-on to a larger exploration of the country or Western European vacation.
