Train Vacations & Tours

  • Train in Switzerland

In a bygone era, travelling by train was a way of life. Now it can be considered a relaxing, enjoyable experience. Train travel now offers the ability to take in passing vistas while eating, reading or just relaxing.

Goway’s selection of great train journeys on 4 continents varies from simple to luxurious depending on your style. Most of the journeys include sleeping accommodation, sightseeing and some meals.

In Southern Africa, one can travel in style on either the Blue Train between Cape Town and Pretoria in 27 hours or Rovos Rail which offers an excellent selection of longer itineraries around Southern Africa. Less luxurious but still of a high standard are train tours with Shongololo Express offering a broad selection of journeys around Southern Africa.

Asia has an abundance of rail travel opportunities. On the Eastern and Orient Express, one can enjoy a 3 or 4-day itinerary between Singapore and Bangkok via Malaysia. In India, one can travel in the same style as the Maharajas used to do on the beautiful Palace on Wheels covering the best of Rajasthan in one week from Delhi including a visit to the fabled Taj Mahal. And then there is the famed Trans Siberian Express between Moscow and Beijing.

Australia, a large land mass is a perfect destination to which to travel by train. The legendary luxury train, the Ghan travels between Darwin and Adelaide with a stop at Alice Springs in the heart of the outback. It is possible to join Alice Springs and travel either north or south. Of similar quality is the Indian-Pacific train travelling from ocean to ocean in approximately 65 hours – between Sydney and Perth with the ability to stop off or join en route. The Sunlander offers a shorter train journey between Brisbane and Cairns along the east coast.

Generally, with rail travel, you will avoid the responsibilities of driving and the expense of flying. You will also save on accommodation costs with sleeping berths available on overnight services. Another saving is airport transfers since most rail stations are centrally located.
